Hi, Latisea Calton here! Co Founder and Lead Interior Designer at MLEE Home Décor and More and Content Influencer at Latisea Calton Designs. This Fall I am participating the my second One Room Challenge.
Last week, I unveiled the room and held an initial consultation with my clients. It was nerve racking and exciting all at the same time. haha If you missed it, you can catch up by clicking here.
The next step in the design process is called the design concept.
The Design Concept |
In the interior design industry, the design concept is a crucial aspect of creating a cohesive and visually appealing space. It typically involves several key stages, including research (preferences, trends, budget), sourcing ( furniture, decor, accessories, etc.), mood board creation (visuals that help tell the story aesthetically), and space planning (analyzing functionality and flow). This ensure the interior designer and client(s) are all on the same page.
The Mood Board for the boys bedroom makeover was inspired by bold artwork layered with interesting wallpaper, textures and muted colors to fit both their needs.

I’m still working on Levi’s playhouse request, the design of the closet and desk but the boys and I are happy with the design concept so far.
When we purchased this home about a year ago, the room was a sky blue color. Although suitable for a boys' bedroom, it had to be repainted to a soft white palette in order for me reimagine the space into a room that embodies brotherhood and culture. To see the behind the scenes content click here.

The Project Plan |
• DIY twin beds turned bunkbeds
• Paint and stain the new bunkbed
• Clean out the closet
• Create a custom closest for two
• Paint the walls
• Install wallpaper and book shelves
• Build a desk
• Fill in gaps between walls and trim with sealant
• DIY seating for the reading corner (maybe)
• DIY fan update (maybe)
• Add art and Décor
• Style and photograph
Needless to say, the family and I got our work cut out for us.
Stay tuned for weekly updates as I take you through this 8 week challenge sponsored by the ORC and their media partner Apartment Therapy. From beginning to end you will see how this project unfolds up until the grand reveal November 20, 2024.
See you next week on the BLOG!
